Bright magenta flowers smother Cistus pur. Sunset throughout June and July. The tissue paper thin petals are crinkled and delicate looking, like a wild rose with a gorgeous golden centre which contrasts spectacularly against the vibrant pink blooms.Highly attractive to pollinators, Cistus are more commonly known as Rock Roses and originate from arid parts of the Mediterranean - therefore, they thrive in a sun-baked spot in well-drained soil.Great for the front of the border, or rockery, this hardy shrub is low growing and compact, and will reach an eventual spread of up to 1m tall and almost 1m wide. Prune plants back after flowering to avoid them becoming leggy and maintain an attractive growth habit. The evergreen foliage is a beautiful dark grey-green colour. This resilient plant is hardy to temperatures of -10 C and thrives in coastal areas where it is tolerant of the salty sea air and wind.
