With twinkling, centres this South African beauty opens wide on summer evenings, adding sweet fragrance and flashes of intense colour to the garden. Zaluzianskya ovata Orange Eye is new to us with intense flowers which appear above thistle-like, evergreen foliage from June to August. As the common name suggests the wonderful, sweet fragrance is at its most intense once the sun goes down and, as a consequence, blooms are much loved by moths and other nocturnal pollinators. Zaluzianskya ovata Orange Eye is perfect for containers or rockeries and would make a fabulous inclusion in a courtyard or patio area where the scent can amplify evening al fresco dining. Prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. A hardy, evergreen alpine perennial which grows to 25cm high and spreads to 60cm. Should not require additional winter protection throughout most of the UK unless temperatures dip below -5 C.
