With twinkling centres, this South African beauty opens wide on summer evenings, adding sweet fragrance and flashes of intense colour to your garden. Zaluzianskya ovata ‘Orange Eye’ boasts intensely coloured whirligig blooms which appear above thistle-like, evergreen foliage from June to August. As the common name suggests the wonderful, sweet fragrance is at its most wonderful once the sun goes down and, as a consequence, blooms are much loved by moths alongside other nocturnal pollinators. Zaluzianskya ovata ‘Orange Eye’ is perfect for containers or rockeries and would make a fabulous inclusion in a courtyard or patio area - where the scent can amplify evening ‘al fresco’ dining. Prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil of any type except chalk based. Position in full sun with a south or west facing aspect. A hardy (H4), evergreen alpine perennial which grows to 25cm high and spreads to 60cm. Should not require additional winter protection throughout most of the UK unless temperatures dip below -10°C.
