Crammed with precious and exciting late bloomers to fill your garden with colour at a time of year when flowers can be sparse. ‘Winter-flowering Camelia sasanqua Collection’ brings you vibrant reds, pretty pinks and wintery whites, all set off by sunny yellow central coronas. Even better, one variety, ‘Kanjiro’, has a subtle, honeysuckle-like perfume which is best appreciated up close. Flowers emerge against a strong frame of glossy, evergreen foliage in sequence -commencing in October and continuing into February - adding 5 months of generous verdancy and colour. Adaptable enough for a border, a strategic spot in open ground or adding to containers and even vases inside your home. The ‘Winter-flowering Camelia sasanqua Collection’ comprises ‘Yuletide’ which blooms from November to February, reaching H: 3m S: 2.5m; ‘Chantal’, again with flowers from October to December and H: 2m S: 1m; finally, ‘Kanjiro’ with flowers from October to January and H&S: 3m. All prefer to be planted in moist, well-drained soil of any kind except chalk based. Plants like a neutral to mildly acidic pH and a spot in full sun or partial shade. Hardy (H5), evergreen shrubs which should not need additional winter protection throughout most of the UK.
