A vibrant, towering, spectacle, Lupinus 'West Country Gladiator' is one of a series of 'giant' lupins, growing to double the height of an average, standard variety. Statuesque, tapered, upright spires of bright orange and yellow blooms makes this cultivar perfect for weaving throughout the back half of a border, where it will provide strong, eye-catching vertical accents. Foliage is attractive in its own right; palmate and divided into narrow leaflets. Lupinus is a cottage garden favourite, much visited by pollinators and excellent as a cut flower. Prefer moderately fertile, light, slightly acidic, well-drained, sandy soil in full sun or partial shade. H&S: 75cm x 60cm. Hardy, short-lived perennial. Allow some flowers to set seed, ensuring future generations. Cut others back hard after flowering to direct energy back into plants, increasing the likelihood of healthy growth the following year.
