Natives and naturalisers which, when they appear, herald in the seasons with their familiar and much-loved blooms alongside delicate, sweet perfume. A single and a double snowdrop which bloom from January to March are topped off by the English bluebell with its pretty, nodding flowers in April and May. Each of our ‘Welcoming Woodland Collection’ is supplied to you ‘in the green’ as trials have shown that these beauties take just as well, if not better, when planted their ‘active’ stage of growth (as opposed to in dormancy).
Your trio contains Galanthus nivalis (single snowdrop) and Galanthus nivalis f. pleniflorus 'Flore Pleno' (double snowdrop) – both reaching a height of around 20cm with a spread of 15cm and holding the RHS Award of Garden Merit for their outstanding performance in the garden. Hyacinthoides non-scripta (English Bluebell), the later bloom, is instantly recognisable with flowers on one side of its stem only and a height of 30cm, with a spread of 10cm. Stems can be cut for a posy vase indoors as well as thriving in pots, borders and rockeries.
Plant ‘Welcoming Woodland Collection’ in humus rich, moist, well-drained soil of any kind. Locate in partial, dappled shade for best results and plant away from strong, northerly winds. Galanthus are hardy (H5), bulbous perennials and should not need additional winter protection throughout most of the UK, whilst Hyacinthoides are fully hardy perennials which can withstand the cold throughout the UK.
Supplied ‘in the green’ means while they still have green leaf and are in growth, so they establish much quicker.
