Tell Me More...
A wonderful addition to any garden, Vitis Red Grape is an attractive deciduous climber which will give a warm patio a Mediterranean ambience. Imagine picking the fruits and eating them fresh from the vine.Grape vines need a warm, sunny location in the summer to ripen the fruits. They will clime along a wall or fence, or through a trellis or pergola. Being self-fertile, the breeze will naturally pollinate each bloom, although bees and other pollinators will want to visit the nectar-rich blooms in June and July to lend a hand.Later in the summer, when bunches of grapes start to form, improve air circulation by cutting out several within each bunch, especially the smallest or malformed ones. Your grapes will be ready to harvest in September and October.Vitis Red Grape are deep rooting plants, so once established should only require watering during very dry spells. Happy in large containers as well as borders, they will reach a mature height up to 12m, spreading around 4m. A hardy perennial, H5 (-15 C) on the RHS hardiness scale.
