Tell Me More...
Flowering over an exceptionally long period, the rare and unusual Viola sororia 'Freckles' bears white flowers speckled with purple, over mounds of attractive, heart-shaped foliage. Flowers appear from March to June with foliage retained all year in milder parts of the UK. These striking blooms go beautifully with spring bulbs, daffodils in particular. Violets self-seed freely, forming naturalistic drifts relatively quickly when left to do so. Do not let their dainty appearance have you fooled; these little perennials originate from a wild species found throughout eastern North America and are surprisingly robust as well as beautiful. Viola sororia 'Freckles' is perfect for planting beneath deciduous shrubs such as roses, at the front of borders, along path edges or in containers. Prefers fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. A hardy perennial which reaches a height of 20cm with a spread of 30cm.
