A delight to behold - Viola Penny's will greet you with a crowd of gleeful grins. Each scented bloom is reminiscent of a jovial, smiling face. Prolifically blooming, numerous flowers with bright yellow eye envelope the tidy, mounding, semi-evergreen foliage. Suitable for both summer and winter planting schemes, your winter baskets really can rival your summer ones for colour and floriferousness, bubbling with excitement as they spill over to soften any hard edges. Viola cornuta Penny prefer to be grown in well-drained soil in sun or part shade, bred with heat and cold tolerance. Reaching a height and spread of approximately 20cm. Normally grown as hardy annuals they have an RHS rating of H4 tolerating temperatures down to -10 degrees and will thrive outside happily. It is said that the sweetly scented blooms can be eaten raw adding fabulous colour to salads, though they taste a little bitter, with a grassy flavour. Alternatively crystallise the blooms for a colourful, decorative garnish. Collection comprises: Penny Peach Jump, Purple Picotee, Primrose Picotee, Tiger Eye Red, Violet Blue and White Blotch.
