Tell Me More...
For an easy, attractive way to fill those patches of bare soil, the luscious and extremely long-flowering Viola cornuta ‘Martin’ is hard to better. This spreading, evergreen perennial will quickly cover ground with its delicate, fresh green foliage, bearing masses of rich, velvety purple flowers with delicate yellow eyes, for months on end. Do not let its dainty appearance have you fooled; this little perennial originates from a species found in the Spanish Pyrenees and is surprisingly tough. Perfect for planting beneath deciduous shrubs such as roses, along path edges, or spilling out of window boxes and containers. Prefers fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. H&S: 20cm x 30cm. Hardy, evergreen perennial. Benefits from cutting back after flowering, to maintain a neat appearance and encourage a further flush of blooms.
