This small wonder Vinca minor 'Ralph Shugert' holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding performance in the garden. An evergreen, trailing shrub keen to spread and put down roots as it goes, which helps 'knit' ground together as well as add variegated carpets of green and white foliage. From April to September, vivid, deep violet purple blooms which are streaked with white appear - adding colour under trees and shrubs, in pots and rockeries or banks and borders. Excellent for suppressing weeds whilst keeping the soil beneath protected from hot summer sun or excessive winter cold. The name Vinca derives from the Latin word 'vincire' which means to bind or to fetter, probably referring to the ability to hold shifting ground together using the long runners.Vinca minor 'Ralph Shugert' prefers a spot in moist, well-drained soil which is in any light levels from full sun to full shade. A hardy, evergreen perennial which reaches a height of 20cm and spreads anywhere between 50-70cm. Plants do not require winter protection throughout most of the UK as they are able to withstand temperatures as low as -20 C.
