Tell Me More...
Vinca minor are fantastic, floriferous perennials with long prostrate stems which create dense carpets of evergreen, broad-leaved groundcover. Excellent for suppressing weeds while keeping the soil beneath protected from hot summer sun or excessing winter cold. From April to September, the ground hugging cushions are covered with pretty, star-like blooms injecting colour into often difficult dry areas. Fabulous under trees and shrubs, or trailing over the edges of containers and walls.Tough, low maintenance and pest free, Vinca minor is less invasive than Vinca major, and is known by the common name Lesser Periwinkle here in the UK; and in the US as Creeping Myrtle. The name Vinca derives from the latin word vincire which means to bind or to fetter, probably referring to the ability to hold shifting ground together using their long runners.Vinca minor prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in sun or shade. Reaching 10cm tall, and spreading to 100-150cm. Being fully hardy perennials, Vinca thrive outside with no winter protection required.
