A fabulously slug-resistant alternative to delphiniums whereby the furry leaves of Verbascum ‘Pink Petticoats’ keep these pests at bay. The rosette-forming stems of creamy pink blooms are beautiful in their own right and emerge in June, remaining throughout summer to attract both pollinators and admiring glances. Stems can be cut for a vase and plants thrive in both borders and containers – offering upward movement and generous colour alongside the downy semi-evergreen, grey-green foliage which is retained from February to November. Verbascum are native to Europe, northern Africa and Asia. Plants are well suited to gravelly soils and thrive in both moist and dry soils once they are established. Furthermore, they will naturalise readily so remember to remove the flower stems once they go to seed if this is likely to be of concern. Plant Verbascum ‘Pink Petticoats’ in any soil other than heavy clay and ensure you have neutral or alkaline soil as this verbascum dislikes acidic environments. Position in full sun with a south or west facing aspect and this hardy (H5), semi-evergreen perennial will reach a height and spread of 50-60cm.
