Salvia microphylla ‘Dyson’s Maroon’ brings your garden almost luminous, velvety, open-mouthed flowers in rich shades of maroon. Flowers are borne on strong, wiry stems above sage-scented foliage, making a stunning display from June through to November each year. Easy-going and drought tolerant as well as loved by bees, Salvia microphylla ‘Dyson’s Maroon’ will happily grow in borders and containers. We recommend planting it near a path or seating area where the fragrance will be released when the foliage is brushed against. The name, salvia, is derived from the Latin 'salvere' meaning 'to save' as these plants have been used medicinally for centuries. As with the majority of the salvia family, ‘Dyson’s Maroon’ prefers to be grown in well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade, reaching a height of approximately 80cm and spreading to 60cm. As a hardy, herbaceous perennial, Salvia microphylla ‘Dyson’s Maroon’ can be grown outside in well-drained soil. Extra winter protection may be required when temperatures fall below -5 to -10 degrees– this can be done by relocating containers or mulching plants.
