Tell Me More...
As the name suggests, Vaccinium corymbosum 'Early Blue' brings you berries in June and July - right at the start of the blueberry season. For those of us who love the taste of these juicy jewels, not only can you enjoy them earlier, you can also enjoy them straight from the bush at a fraction of the cost in the supermarkets. Flowers, or blossom, arrives in March to April, acting as a draw to the pollinators who love these bell shaped, creamy white blooms. This is followed by an abundance of fruit for snacking, adding to puddings or making into delicious jams. Then, as autumn arrives, the foliage of Vaccinium corymbosum 'Early Blue' turns a beautiful shade of red prior to the shrub becoming dormant for the winter and the cycle starting again the following spring.Vaccinium corymbosum 'Early Blue' will happily grow in a container or the ground; making it easy to the acidic (ericaceous) soil needed to thrive. Prefers moist, well-drained in full sun or part shade. A hardy, deciduous perennial which reaches a maximum height of 1.8m with a spread of up to 1m.
