Once the ultimate symbol of prosperity and wealth. In the 17th century ‘Tulipomania’ took hold of Holland and in 1637 a single bulb of the rare Tulip Semper Augustus was priced at the same cost as a house on the most fashionable canal in Amsterdam at the time. Luckily, Tulips can now be enjoyed by everyone, as centuries later, breeders are continually working on producing new varieties including many with unusual shades and shapes. This collection comprises three of our favourites; Sweetly scented, Tulipa ‘Sugar Crystal’ boasts exquisite, feathery edged petals which form large blousy blooms in April and May, height 40cm; Tulip ‘Double Negrita’ produces glorious, peony-shaped blooms in April and May, with double layers of mauve-purple petals and central pink streaks, height 40cm; and Tulipa ‘Blue Lagoon’ will amaze you and your visitors, as unusual, violet-blue and white-edged flowers are produced in March and April, height 45-60cm.
