Tell Me More...
Exuberant and certain to turn heads of passers-by. Classified as a Single Late, Tulip Temple of Beauty is one of the latest tulips to flower in late April-May. Large and graceful blooms with unusual, pointed petals, in sunset tones of deep salmon-red and rose-pink, the colours almost seem to change intensity depending on the light. Held on strong stems in April and May, Temple of Beauty make exceptional cut flowers, lasting up to 10 days in a vase. Tulip Temple of Beauty has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding performance in the garden. Once the ultimate symbol of prosperity and wealth. In the 17th century 'Tulipomania' took hold of Holland and in 1637 a single bulb of the rare Tulip Semper Augustus was priced at the same cost as a house on the most fashionable canal in Amsterdam at the time. Luckily, Tulips can now be enjoyed by everyone, as centuries later, breeders are continually working on producing new varieties including many with unusual shades and shapes. Tulips are versatile and happy in borders and containers. Plant Tulip bulbs in the autumn, around 15cm deep in well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Tulip Temple of Beauty grows to an approximate height of 60cm and is a hardy bulbous perennial to enjoy for years to come.
