A wild tulip variety which is native to the Mediterranean, other parts of Europe and Asia. Tulipa sylvestris is not specifically a UK native, however, it will eagerly naturalise in our climate and grows well in grass or under the light shade of deciduous trees – hence another common name; the Wood Tulip. Equally suitable for containers, gravel gardens and herbaceous borders – not only does this special variety bring gorgeously sunny colour to your garden in March to April each year, it unusually has a rich, lemony fragrance which further enhances both your planting and vases inside your home.Bulbs will naturalise by spreading ‘runners’ underground so watch first for signs of foliage and then, as they develop, for more and more flowers each year too. Plant in well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay and position in full sun with any aspect except north-facing for best results. These hardy (H6), bulbous perennials reach a height of 25cm, with a spread of 15cm.
