Tulip Purissima is an early flowering Fosteriana tulip which holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its classic elegance, reliability and resilience to wind and rain among other attributes. Like other Fosteriana tulips these have single, bowl shaped flowers and large, slender leaves. Purissima will grow 35-40cm tall and the blooms are approximately 10cm wide making them one of the larger flowering varieties which is excellent for cutting. The scented, creamy-white flowers appear in late March to April and can emerge as a pale yellow but open to white with a creamy coloured base and are often tinged with pink at the periphery. Plant bulbs 15cm deep in Autumn and space approximately 10cm apart (closer if in containers) for flowers the following Spring. Tulip Purissima bulbs will naturalise well given the right conditions - remember to allow foliage to die back before tidying to assist this. Combine with pastels for a romantic effect or with darker blooms to emphasise the purity of these stunning tulips.
