With a name reminiscent of a childhood schoolmate, Tulipa ‘Crunchy Cummins’ is a curious and quirky new addition to the tulip family. A ‘Fringed variety’, all of which are single flowered cultivars with petals edged by crystal shaped fringes to lend a frost-kissed intrigue to each bloom. This particular variety also has a colour-changing habit, whereby buds emerge in warming shades of purple then intensify to a brighter purple pink as they mature. Flowers are held from April to May on stems up to 45cm tall – perfect for containers and gravel gardens as well as the fore of a border. Tulipa ‘Crunchy Cummins’ prefers to be planted in fertile, well-drained soil of any kind except very heavy clay or chalk. A hardy (H6), bulbous perennial which like a spot in full sun with a south or east facing aspect. A real showstopper which can also be cut for a vase inside your home.
