Tulip Uncle Tom, a double late variety of tulip which blooms towards the end of April -May. The rich intensity of this flower is a sight to behold! It is a deep, luscious wine-red and, as a peony style bloom, has a luxuriant, velvety elegance that is hard to beat. The flowers are held on thick strong stems and buds are a red, almost black colour before they unfurl to reveal their show-stopping burgundy tones. Tulip Uncle Tom grows to a height of 45cm, so has shortish stems ideal for pots as well as the front of a border. Plant to a depth of 15cm in Autumn where there is a sunny aspect. Use a fertile but well-drained growing medium to ensure the best display, either in the ground or as a cut flower for vases and bouquets. Uncle Tom is sure to become a family favourite who is an extremely welcome visitor each Spring.
