An unusual and exciting tulip with a naturalising habit. Tulipa orphanidea is a simply stunning bulb which produces deep orange-red flowers in April each year. The open, goblet-shaped blooms closely resemble crowns, adding a regal vibe to your spring planting. Perfect alongside other tulips or daffodils and magical when planted with forget-me-nots, muscari or iris. Sword-like foliage is borne from March through to June and should be retained on the plant until it has faded in order to reinvigorate bulbs for the following year. By contrast, deadhead the flowers as they fade to prevent too much energy being pushed into setting seed.Plant to the front of a border, in a special container or any location that benefits from moist, well-drained soil and full sun. Plants are drought tolerant once established and make an excellent cut flower for a vase or bouquet. Hardy, bulbous perennials which should be planted in autumn to commence flowering the following year.
