A wonderfully shaped, slender plant which holds its glaucous foliage from February to May each year. Tulipa clusiana ‘Lady Jane’ then bears narrow, elongated buds from March which open into pretty bicoloured white and rosy, pink blooms with a yellow centre and contrasting black anthers – lasting through into April. Colouration is akin to the peppermint sticks of old and adds a classical charm to borders, gravel gardens and containers. Tulipa clusiana ‘Lady Jane’ is eager to naturalise too – giving you more and more flowers, year on year, spreading joyous spring colour wherever they grow. Even better, the shapes of these flowers open wide as a final flourish – lending larger six-petalled stars to the garden when viewed from above. So appreciated is this variety that the RHS has bestowed its Award of Garden Merit in recognition of its dependability and beauty. Plant in well-drained soil of any kind. Provide with any aspect except north-facing and a position in full sun for best results. These hardy (H6), bulbous perennials reach a height of 25cm, with a spread of 15cm.
