Tulipa 'Caf Noir' adds an unusual, dramatic edge to your spring pots or borders. Plant with whites and creams for contrast and to show the richly coloured, velvety looking petals off at their best. Alternatively, these dark chocolate-coloured blooms look amazing combined with wallflowers as well as Tulip 'Angelique' and Narcissus 'Thalia'. Stems reach up to 50cm tall when they bloom in April to May and make fantastic cut flowers, lasting a week or longer in the vase. A handy tip is to make sure when you cut these to leave some foliage attached to the bulb as this is needed to reinvigorate the bulb as it fades in order to ensure repeat flowering the following year. Plant your bulbs 20cm deep between October and December and ensure that they are provided with well-drained soil and full sun. Tulips grow well in all soil types as long as it is well-drained so, if you garden on heavy clay soil - add some horticultural grit to assist.
