Tell Me More...
Tulbaghia hybrida 'Flamingo' bears close resemblance to a miniature agapanthus with its clusters of blooms held on long stems. Bright, lime green grassy leaves and vibrant, flamingo pink stems mean this tulbaghia makes an eye-catching combination even when it's not in bloom. Also known as 'society garlic', all parts of Tulbaghia hybrida 'Flamingo' are edible with a pleasing garlic flavour. So, it is useful in the kitchen garden too - the pale violet flowers and chive-like leaves make the perfect addition to savoury dishes and a great garnish for salads.Tulbaghia hybrida 'Flamingo' is also said to have antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it an exceptional companion to roses and other plants which are sometimes susceptible to fungal disease.Flowering throughout the summer and reaching up to 75cm tall, Tulbaghia hybrida 'Flamingo' is ideal for edging a border or for rockeries and makes an excellent cut flower too. Drought tolerant once established, this perennial will thrive in a sunny spot on free-draining soil with any aspect other than north-facing. Provide some protection over winter as the plant is half-hardy, semi-evergreen perennial with an RHS hardiness rating of H3.
