Good things come in threes, and this is the best of the bunchRadiating vitality even in deep shade, Trillium grandiflorum is a deservedly popular flowering, woodland plant, found growing naturally in moist, shady locations throughout E. North America. Ribbed, bright green leaves emerge in spring, closely followed by large, pure white flowers which sit neatly atop the foliage. Cupped at first, then opening widely, these three-petalled flowers glow with luminosity, before gradually fading to pink. Foliage remains long after flowers have gone, continuing to look lush and healthy right through the summer. This trillium is vigorous and clump forming, and though slow to establish will eventually create swathes of rich verdure. Prefer fertile, moist, well-drained soil (trilliums will not tolerate drying out, though nor will they withstand waterlogging), ideally neutral to acid, in deep or partial shade. H&S: 40cm x 30cm. Hardy perennial.
