An Award-winning trio of woodland wondersTaken from the Greek 'Tris' meaning three, all parts of the plant occur in threes. Large, striking, solitary flowers, almost appear to sit on a 3-leaved 'shelf' foliage during spring, like a cup perched on a saucer. Your collection comprises; erectum, stunning dark red petals, height 30-50cm; grandiflorum, probably the best known of the family, crisp white blooms with a yellow centre, height 40cm, spread 30cm; luteum, also known as yellow wood trillium, buttery-coloured blooms, height and spread 45cm. All have been given the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden. The display of flowers increases each year, as the plant produces rhizomes, and spreads to create dense groundcover. Trillium prefer to be grown in a moist, shady spot. Given an RHS hardiness rating of H5, winter protection will not be required across most of the UK.
