Tell Me More...
Unusual and enchanting shade lover - perfect for the edge of a woodland or shady border. Tricyrtis formosana 'Purple Beauty' offers dark green foliage, mottled with purple splotches from March through to November each year. Leaves have a thick, waxy appearance and are held on strong stems from which blooms emerge at the tips. Flowers are orchid-like with an exotic ambience that is greatly enhanced by their speckled petals and unusually, pronounced stamen. Borne between August and September each year, blooms bring a touch of the rare and unusual to your garden later in the season. Stems can also be cut for a vase or floral display which is sure to demand attention.Tricyrtis formosana 'Purple Beauty' is an easy going and trouble-free plant which needs very little maintenance. Plants will spread and naturalise by rhizomes beneath the ground and form dense, yet not invasive, colonies which can be divided in early spring when required. Prefers a spot in moist, well-drained, fertile soil in partial sun to full shade. A hardy, herbaceous perennial which reaches a height and spread of 50cm.
