Tell Me More...
Rare, tropical and surprisingly very hardy. Purple, fleshy stems rise from sturdy clumps of crinkly purple-backed leaves but the flowers are the real stars of the show. Golden yellow, foxglove-like blooms with vivid red inners are produced all autumn, just stunning. Fascinatingly, regeneration is by seed and also by tiny bulbils that grow into 10 cm (4 inches) high plants in just a couple of months. Requires moist soil in part shade. Fully hardy perennial.
