Perennial salvias are a must for summer borders and containers. They offer a huge spectrum of colours, extraordinarily long flowering periods, and a rich source of nectar for pollinators. Their delicate flowers mix easily with a huge range of other plants, from prairie-style grass schemes to bustling cottage gardens. This collection has been chosen to channel fresh, summer days in shades of blue and yellow: 'Blue Butterflies' hails from high in the Andes and bears dazzling, cobalt blue flowers from June to September. H: 90cm S: 60cm. 'Lemon Light' is hardiest of the three (between -10 C and -15 C). It is a semi-evergreen subshrub with pale creamy yellow flowers, from June to October. H: 75cm S: 75cm. 'African Skies' produces masses of two-tone, sky blue flowers from June to October. H: 80cm S: 60cm. For best results grow in a sunny spot in moist, well-draining, moderately fertile soil. The two blue varieties will need protection during cold winters, which can take the form of fleece or a dry mulch, as well as stems left intact over winter (cut back once new growth emerges in spring). Alternatively, take cuttings to ensure plants for the following year.
