Thymus praecox coccineus is a creeping, evergreen sub shrub which is not only a much-loved aromatic herb for the kitchen, it is also a fabulous new plant for the edges of borders, gravel gardens, pots and pathways. With its attractive nature, it would make a fabulous inclusion in a potager style plot - where plants are productive as well as beautiful. These versatile and resilient qualities mean that Thymus praecox coccineus holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding performance in the garden. Alongside this accolade, it brings an abundance of small, deep pink, tubular flowers to your garden from June to July each year. These wonderful blooms provide valuable sustenance for visiting pollinators and both the blooms and the foliage will release their delicious, herby fragrance when they are brushed past or walked upon. Thymus praecox coccineus is a hardy, drought tolerant plant once it has established. Plants prefer a site in well-drained soil which benefits from full sun. Grows to a height of 10cm with a spread of 50cm.
