Providing height in your garden and drawing the eye upwards, Thunbergia alata ‘Sunny Susy White Halo’ is a vigorous climber which will eagerly cover an obelisk, fence, wall or trellis. Blooming from July through to October, a profusion of pure white stunningly simple blooms, festoon the lush green foliage. A versatile plant which will trail from hanging baskets almost to ground level and, if grown in the ground and left to sprawl, creates dense mats of groundcover for excellent moisture-retaining weed suppression. Native to eastern Africa, Thunbergia alata ‘Sunny Susy White Halo’ is also known as Black-eyed Susan. This common name is thought to have come from a character in traditional ballads who searched for her long-lost lover, a gentleman named Sweet William – with whom she blooms in the garden each year. Thunbergia alata ‘Sunny Susy White Halo’ prefers to be grown in well-drained soil of any kind except clay in full sun, however, can tolerate partial shade. Grows to a mature height of 2m with a spread of 1m. A tender perennial which will need frost protection during the cold winter period or can be treated as annual bedding.
