A close, shade-loving relative of the Heuchera, Tiarella are often grown for their fantastic foliage colours as neat mounds are formed by deeply cut palmate leaves, which become heavily patterned in summer and winter. A profusion of slender wiry stems rise above the foliage and display a mass of small blooms.Collection comprises; 'Pink Skyrocket' - one of the longest flowering, producing a profusion of small starry pink flowers from April to November; 'Spring Symphony' AGM - a mass of pale pink buds, from which dainty, creamy-white starry flowers open, give a frothy effect into early summer; and 'Sugar and Spice' - an abundance of lightly scented, starry white blooms, with a flush of pink, leaves become heavily patterned with red markings in summer and winter. All reach a height and spread of around 30cm, are low maintenance and happy in both borders and containers, making excellent weed-suppressing groundcover. Spreading by stolons and naturally producing offsets, these plants can remain undivided for years. Deer and rabbits tend to leave Tiarella alone.Tiarella originate from woodland areas of Asia and Northern America and prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil in part shade.
