Tell Me More...
If you have ever walked past a lilac tree in full bloom in May, it is doubtful you would have resisted stopping to breathe in its unmistakeable heavenly perfume. Syringa vulgaris Belle de Nancy originates from France, first introduced in 1891, and is thus often known as French lilac. Panicles of delightful double blooms in the classic shade of pinky-purple lilac cover this small tree in late spring standing upright from between its attractive heart-shaped leaves. The nectar-rich flowers will attract a host of butterflies and bees to your garden and shall delight you and your visitors with its intoxicating scent.Tolerant of most soil types, Syringa vulgaris Belle de Nancy will reach a maximum height of 2.5m and a spread of 2m by 10-20 years, making it as suited to an urban space as it will be in a cottage garden planting scheme.A fine-looking feature tree by itself, or planted with several others as screening, this lilac is a true gem for the garden.
