The more compact varieties are suitable for underplanting shrubs, taller varieties will add architecture to borders and beds.All 3 varieties have received the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden.Collection includes: Matteuccia struthiopteris - Height 1.8m, spread 90cm. Huge, bright green, shuttlecock-like fronds unfurl each spring, naturalising easily if left. Prefers humus-rich, moist, well-drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil, in partial or light dappled shade. Hardy, herbaceous perennial.Polystichum polyblepharum - Height 80cm, spread 90cm. Evergreen finely divided, ferny foliage with a coating of golden hairs when young. Prefers full or partial shade and fertile, well-drained soil. Fully hardy perennial. Osmunda regalis - Height 2.5m, spread 4m. A stunning giant fern. Lush, leaves unfurl to make bright green fronds turning bronze in autumn. Prefers moist soil in sun or shade. Fully hardy perennial.
