Tell Me More...
This compact shrub forms thickets of feathery fern-like foliage which is blushed pink-bronze in the spring, then a lush rich green in the summer, gradually turning to vibrant shades of red in the autumn. From June through to August attractive clustered panicles of small white flowers form. With the colour changing foliage and the white flowers, Sorbaria sorbifolia 'Sem' is a worthy contributor to the beauty of any garden. Therefore, it is no surprise the Royal Horticultural Society have bestowed on this plant their esteemed Award of Garden Merit. There is little maintenance required apart from applying a generous layer of mulch around the base of the plant in spring or autumn. Once established, cut back around a quarter of the old stems to the base after flowering. Prefers full sun to partial shade, in a fertile, well-drained, alkaline to neutral soil. A hardy shrub reaching a mature height and spread of 1-1.5m.
