Native to New Zealand, this dwarf variety is the hardiest sophora. Even so, you may find ‘Little Baby’ will require protection from cold winds, and in our climate, is semi rather than fully evergreen. This is an attractive plant with exquisite zig-zag branching, exploding in delightful vibrant yellow flowers to bring joy in the spring. Elegant, glossy, dark green, pinnate leaves add their contribution to this vision.
Sophora ‘Little Baby’ prefers to be grown in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun and a sheltered position (against a warm, sunny wall is ideal).
Of late ‘Little Baby’, has become a popular houseplant to grow because its height and spread is only 110cm x 100cm, which is small for a sophora and it thrives indoors; where the warmer temperatures keep it evergreen.
