Tell Me More...
A soft jasmine scent fills your garden when you grow Solanum jasminoides Album. A fast-growing, semi-evergreen climber adds much need height to a garden - without taking up too much room. Crisp white, five petalled blooms with prominent yellow centres producing jasmine fragrance are held in clusters on twining stems. Held in bundles from mid-summer, well into autumn, the potato-like blooms are the reason for the common name White Potato Vine. Inedible black berries follow in autumn.Solanum jasminoides Album has been given the Royal Horticultural Society's prestigious Award of Garden Merit for outstanding performance in the garden.Originating from Chile and Peru, Solanum is a huge and diverse family, which strangely includes potatoes, tomatoes, and belladonna (deadly nightshade).Solanum jasminoides Album prefers to be grown in well-drained soil in sun, reaching a height of 6m. Hardy to -10 C and requiring some protection from frost in exceptionally cold winters.
