A beautiful new arrival for 2024 with as many names as it has flowers. Also called the Fireball Lily, Starfire Lily, Catherine Wheel and Poison Root amongst others, Scadoxus multiflorus bears wide, luscious banana-like leaves from April to September in lush, verdant shades. Attractive in its own right, leaves are ideal for jungle gardens or those of you who love a tropical vibe. From July to August a round head of up to 200 individual scarlet blooms emerges – drawing in pollinators and attracting admiring glances. Second to none in the ‘fizz’ department! Native to eastern tropics and South Africa, bulbs are ideal for planting in containers as they will need to be protected from frost and cold, damp weather in a greenhouse or conservatory over winter.
