Tell Me More...
Bred by the well-known breeder Peter Moore, who has been producing new introductions for nearly 40 years, Scabiosa atropurpurea x caucasica 'Magic' is creating quite a stir. A cluster of small, greenish flowers form a pincushion-like flowerhead, each one magically maturing to pale pink. Held singularly on wiry stems continually from July to September, bees and other pollinators will appear to take a closer look. The genus Scabiosa have had an interesting history, once used as a traditional medicine to treat the severe itching brought on by scabies. Today, the blooms symbolise love, purity and peace and are frequently seen adorning wedding bouquets. Scabiosa atropurpurea x caucasica 'Magic' prefers to be grown in well-drained soil, in a sunny or partially shaded position - any aspect other than north – where it will reach a height of around 60cm and spread 20-30cm. An herbaceous, half-hardy perennial with an RHS rating of H3, which will tolerate temperatures down to around -5°C – perfe
