Pretty, sky blue, 'pincushion' blooms appear in abundance on Scabiosa japonica 'Ritz Blue', from June right through to September. This dwarf variety has a neat, compact appearance with low mounds of ferny foliage, and short, sturdy flowering stems. Scabiosa is a much-loved, reliable performer in the garden, particularly useful as a 'filler' planted among grasses or other flowering perennials. It also makes an excellent cut flower with a vase life of 8-10 days, reblooming again and again in response to picking. This diminutive cultivar is particularly suitable for containers, path edges, the front of borders or rockeries. Prefers neutral to alkaline, moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Protect from excessive winter wet to see this lovely plant thrive, perhaps planting in the rain shadow of a tree, shrub, or wall. H&S: 30cm x 30cm. Hardy perennial.
