Tell Me More...
Sweetly perfumed, domed blooms with an unusual colouration The creamy yellow hues of Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Fata Morgana’ will add lightness and illumination to your planting and once established, will bloom continually through June to October each year. Intriguingly it is not just the flowers which resemble the pincushions referred to in their common name – the calyces, once petals are shed, also clump with bracts to form decorous, spiky balls for extended interest. Each flower has a subtle, attractive scent – making it ideal for a vase as well as for the garden. Flowers offer a rich source of nectar and are loved by pollinators – particularly bees and butterflies – who will add their animated beauty to your borders, pots and wildflower gardens when they visit. Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Fata Morgana’ prefers well-drained soil of any type except chalk based. Plant in full sun and this hardy, herbaceous perennial will reach a height of 90cm with a spread of around 50cm.
