A simply gorgeous plant with tiny, raspberry pink flowers held in clusters on elongated stems from June to September. Flowers are preceded by dark red buds and mature to have pronounced, white tipped stamen which create a fuzzy, fluffy impact – charming in containers and open ground as well as when cut for a vase. Sanguisorba ‘Blackthorn’ is ideal for prairie planting or wildlife gardens as seeds provide sustenance to birds and other wildlife, whilst the nectar-rich flowers are attractive to pollinators. This clump-forming perennial will, over time, reach up to 1.5m tall, with an individual spread of 50cm, so plant where it will have space to reach this size for best results. Furthermore, it will extend its rhizomes under the soil and naturalise well once it has established.
