Recently introduced from Australia, Salvia ‘Pink Mulberry’ is a new hybrid between s. greggii and s. involucrata. It is a tall, bushy, early flowering salvia; its white-tipped pink flowers with fuzzy, deep pink hoods blooming from June to October. Like all salvias it is valued for its long flowering period, vivid colouring, and pollinator-friendly nectar-rich blooms. It mixes easily with a wide range of other plants; we particularly love it in combination with other tall, airy shades of pink and purple, such as Verbena bonariensis, Agastache ‘Black Adder’, Cosmos bipinnatus, and Echinops bannaticus. For best results grow in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-draining, moderately fertile soil, and deadhead regularly to prolong flowering. Salvia ‘Pink Mulberry’ is hardy to down to -5°C, so will need protection during a very cold winter. This can take the form of fleece or a dry mulch, as well as stems left intact over winter (chop back once new growth emerges in spring). Alternatively, take cuttings to ensure plants for the following year. H: 1m S: 65cm.
