One of a trio of new sisters to the famous ‘Amistad’, Salvia x guaranitica ‘Animo’ will have passers-by giving both longing and admiring glances. Very dark, almost black stems and calyces hold an abundance of open-mouthed, nectar-rich blooms in the brightest shade of royal blue. An incredible contrast which is further enhanced when set against the mounds of bright green simple leaves which are retained from March to November time. Attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators to your garden, the mounds of sage-scented foliage which form beneath release an aromatic scent when agitated. Blooms are a favourite with florists, with stems lasting well in a vase and making a great addition to your indoor arrangements. Salvia x guaranitica ‘Animo’ matures to a height of 1.2m, with a spread of 75cm. As with her well-known sisters, Salvia x guaranitica ‘Amino’ is an easy-going plant which is ideal for novice and busy gardeners as well as those with more experience. Plants prefer well-drained soil of any kind except heavy clay and position in full sun or partial shade. A half-hardy (H3) perennial, which may require additional winter protection in cooler regions as temperatures dip below -5°C.
