Tell Me More...
A generous and joyful rambler with almost thornless stems. Sure to create a stir when it produces a single flush of clustered blooms from June to August. Flowers emerge as magenta-purple with white eyes and white streaks through the petals, they then shift to a violet blue tone as they flowers fade. Interestingly, Rosa ‘Veilchenblau’ translates from German to English as ‘violet blue’ and this beauty was introduced to the world by German breeder, Schmidt, in the late 1800s. An ideal bloom to clamber over an archway, secure to a house wall or allow to climb over a decorative pergola where the fresh, sweet orange-like perfume will drift and delight you and your garden’s visitors. So appreciated is Rosa ‘Veilchenblau’ that it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding and reliable performance in the garden. Plants prefer full sun or partial shade in humus rich, moist, well-drained soil. A fully hardy deciduous climbing shrub which reaches a height and spread of up to 4m.
