Tell Me More...
The colourful flowers of Rosa xanthina var. spontanea 'Canary Bird' cannot go unnoticed as they add joyous yellow tones to your garden in April and May with their single flush of blooms. An early flowering, rose which grows into a 'very large shrub' - be sure to give it plenty of room to reach its maximum size of 3.5m tall and 2m wide. The bright, lightly scented flowers are proceeded by spherical, maroon hips which offer later interest alongside the dainty, fern-like foliage which is retained from March through to October.Perfect for a traditional cottage garden and valuable as hedging too. Rosa xanthina var. spontanea 'Canary Bird' is a wild rose variety and its open blooms, along with heart-shaped petals, offer pollinators easy access to sustenance. Stems have a graceful, spreading habit and a softness which belies its stature.Rosa xanthina 'Canary Bird' prefers a spot in full sun or partial shade which benefits from moist, rich, well-drained soil. A fully hardy variety which does not need winter protection throughout the UK.
