Tulipa ‘Uncle Tom’ is a double late variety of tulip which blooms towards the end of April -May. The rich intensity of this flower is a sight to behold! It is a deep, luscious wine-red and as a peony style bloom, has a luxuriant, velvety elegance that is hard to beat. The flowers are held on thick strong stems and buds are red, almost black in colour before they unfurl to reveal their show-stopping burgundy tones. Tulipa ‘Uncle Tom’ grows to a height of 50cm, so has stems ideal for planting in pots or window boxes as well as to the front of a border or gravel garden. Plant to a depth of 15cm in the autumn and locate where there is a sunny aspect. Prefers fertile, well-drained soil of any type except heavy clay to ensure the best displays either in the ground or as a cut flowers for vases and bouquets.
