Originating from Asia, Rhaphiolepis x delacouri 'Pink Cloud' is an unusual evergreen shrub which provides attractive year-round structure with a neat dome of glossy, dark green, leathery leaves. From April to July sweetly fragrant, star-shaped, pink flowers are held in upright panicles, reminiscent of apple or hawthorn blossom (indeed, as a member of the Rosaceae family, raphiolepis is closely related to both). All who witness this shrub in flower cannot fail to be intrigued by the sense of it being simultaneously familiar yet unknown. Rhaphiolepis x delacouri 'Pink Cloud' prefers full sun to partial shade, in moist well-drained soil, away from cold winds. H&S: 1.5m. Hardy to -5 C, best located in a sheltered border or at the base of a warm, sunny wall. May require some frost protection where conditions are very cold, or soil sits wet during winter. Evergreen shrub.
