Tell Me More...
Cascading blooms and spectacular foliage with a neat, petite habitOriginally intended to make its first appearance at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2020, Leycesteria formosa 'Little Lanterns' is causing a stir despite its delayed debut thanks to its spectacular performance across the seasons. Lush foliage metamorphoses from fresh, lime green in spring, to a cascade of golden leaves in the summer, and again to an autumnal display of radiant burgundy and bronze. From June to September, fascinating pendants of veined, maroon sepals unfurl into racemes of white petalled blooms, adored by pollinators. The trumpet shaped flowers are followed by petite, edible purple berries. With a height and spread of 1.2m, this diminutive variety is perfectly suited to smaller spaces and growing in containers. Leycesteria formosa 'Little Lanterns' prefers well-drained soil, positioned in sun or part shade. Originating from the harsh environment of the Himalayan regions of China and Tibet, Leycesteria is drought tolerant and fully hardy.
