Description

(Himalayan Honeysuckle) Pendants of deep red bracts, with white scented flowers appear during summer and early autumn on bamboo like hollow stems, which can be used to make whistles and flutes. The attractive red purple berries are edible, apparently tasting like toffee though we have not tried them ourselves. Great for borders and containers, attractive to bees and butterflies, excellent for cutting and deer resistant. Happy in borders and containers. Height 200cm (80). Spread 90cm (36). Prefers sun or part shade in moist well-drained soil. Hardy perennial.

All plants have a guideline temperature for how well they will tolerate winter cold.

FH - Fully hardy - will withstand temperatures down to -15 C (5F) and often lower.
H - Hardy - are happy down to at least -5C (23F).
HH - Half hardy - can withstand down to around 0C (32F).
T - Tender - may be damaged by temperatures below 5C (41F)
WT Warm temperate can withstand temperatures between 5-10 C (41-50 F)
ST Sub Tropical are happy in temperatures between 10-15 C (50 59 F)
TR Tropical can withstand temperatures above 15 C (59 F)

Please remember that temperatures can vary significantly within quite a small area, and hardiness can be affected by soil, position and other factors.
