RHS AGM winning Digitalis Dalmatian Purple produces eye-catching spires of downward facing violet-pink bells from June to August. Commonly known as Foxgloves, Digitalis are traditional woodland biennial plants, blooming in their second year before setting seed. Beautiful for naturalising in damp well-drained soil which is rich in humus. Grows well in any soil type and aspect in full sun or part shade. If you garden on heavy clay soil, enrich with leaf mould, and add grit to assist drainage before planting. Digitalis Dalmatian Purple are great for bees and other pollinators, excellent for cutting, and will also do well in pots. A large, deep container filled with elegant spikes of Digitalis, lacy Ammi majus, Aquilegia, and tumbling Erigeron karvinskianus will create a dreamy slice of English hedgerow for your garden. Position plants towards the middle or back of the border where they will bloom above and behind their companions. H&S: 60cm x 45cm Remove spent flowers if self-seeding is not desired. Propagate from seed in mid-summer and tidy up foliage in autumn. Digitalis Dalmatian Purple is a semi-evergreen and frost hardy (H5) biennial which does not require winter protection.
